Rory Mcllroy was born on 4 May 1989 in Hollywood, County Down, Northern Ireland, his mother’s name was Rosie McDonald and father’s name was Gerry McIlroy. He did his early studies at St. Patrick’s Primary School and completed further studies from Sullivan Upper School.
He learned about golf exceptionally when he was in his young age from his father who coached him. Gerry McIlroy himself was a fine golfer, having previously played golf at the scratch handicap level. He used to ask his father almost daily to take him to the Holywood Golf Club. Family lore says that he received a new golf club as a gift, which his father showed him to hold, then he took the club with him to bed. holding the club properly with his hands. McIlroy became the youngest member of the club at age seven after joining Holywood Golf Club, and a video on golf technique produced by champion Nick Faldo was his early favorite.
McIlroy’s parents fought hard to develop their son’s golf. His father used to do several jobs to earn extra money and his mother used to take extra shifts at the local 3M plant.
McIlroy’s first significant international win came at the World Championship for the 9–10 age group at Doral Golf Resort & Spa in Miami, Florida. He learned his early golf at Holywood Golf Club, which he still retains as his home course. He began his early training with Michael Bannon, formerly a golf professional at Holywood Golf Club, who is currently also his coach and dedicated mentor.

McIlroy was raised as a Roman Catholic so he identified as Irish. He holds a British passport, although he is generally reluctant to discuss his nationality in detail.
McIlroy lived in Moneyreagh, a small village in County Down, 20 minutes from Belfast. The land around his home included a custom-made practice facility and a small football pitch. In September 2012, the house was put up for sale for £2 million. In December 2012, McIlroy purchased a $10 million property in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, located near Jack Nicklaus’s The Bears Club.
According to the 2017 Forbes list of the world’s highest-paid athletes, McIlroy was the joint sixth-highest-paid athlete that year, earning US$50 million, of which $34 million came from endorsements. McIlroy formed a new company, Rory McIlroy Inc., in March 2015. The new company, headed by Donal Casey, manages royalty payments with his various approvals.
In February 2018, McIlroy appeared in an episode of The Grand Tour, an Amazon Prime show, running against Paris Hilton in the show’s “Celebrity Face-Off” segment.
McIlroy was dating Danish tennis professional Caroline Wozniacki from 2011 to 2014. They got engaged on 31 December 2013 but later ended their engagement on 21 May 2014 due to some reason.
McIlroy later began dating Erica Stoll, a former US PGA employee, in 2015. With whom she got engaged in December 2015, while on holiday in Paris. They married in April 2017 at Ashford Castle in Kang, County Mayo. In September 2020, they had a daughter, Poppy Kennedy McIlroy.

McIlroy had a successful amateur career, topping the world amateur golf rankings for a week in 2007 at the age of 17. Later, he turned professional and soon established himself on the European Tour.
He first won the European Tour in 2009 and also the PGA Tour in 2010. When he turned 22, he became the youngest player who earned € 10 million in his career on the European Tour. And in 2012, he reached $10 million in his career on the PGA Tour.
McIlroy has since represented Europe, Great Britain and Ireland and Ireland, both amateur and professionally. In the Ryder Cup, he played for Europe against the United States in 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018 and 2021, for his individual and team achievements with Europe victories in 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2018. He was named the RTE Sportsperson of the Year twice, in 2011 and 2014.
