Ahmed Salman Rushdie was brought into the world in Bombay on 19 June 1947 during the British Raj, into an Indian Kashmiri Muslim family. His subsequent spouse was the American author Marianne Wiggins; they were hitched in 1988 and separated in 1993. His third spouse, from 1997 to 2004, was the supervisor and creator Elizabeth West; they have a child, Milan (conceived 1997). He married Padma Lakshmi, an Indian-American entertainer, model, and host of American Unscripted TV shows such as Top Chef in 2004. The marriage finished in 2007.
